Micron to Launch Products from New Gujarat Hub in 2025

Micron’s Strategic Expansion in India Micron, the U.S. memory company, has announced that it expects to release chips packaged at its Sanand facility in Gujarat by the start of next year. The company inaugurated this $2.75 billion plant in September 2023, aimed at enabling assembly and test manufacturing for both DRAM and NAND products to meet demand from domestic and international markets.

Production Capabilities and Target Markets According to company reports, production is scheduled to start next year, with most of the output designated for export to clients active in sectors such as data centers, smartphones, notebooks, the Internet of Things, and automotive. This focus not only diversifies Micron’s manufacturing base but also expands its reach into critical global markets.

Investment and Development in India Micron has heavily invested in India, employing a global workforce of 40,000 people, of which about 4,000 work at its research and development centers in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The company plans to increase its employee count in India to 5,000 in the coming years, reinforcing its commitment to technological development and innovation in the region.

Implications for the Industry and Local Economy Micron’s expansion in Gujarat not only responds to the growing demand for advanced memory solutions but also promises to significantly contribute to the local economic development. With the majority of production aimed at export, the facility is expected to strengthen India’s position as a key hub in the global technology supply chain.
