LED Lighting Innovation: New Solutions on the Market

Introduction to New Technology

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has launched new blue and true green LEDs housed in the innovative MiniLED package. The VLMB2332T1U2-08 and VLMTG2332ABCA-08 models, both part of the Vishay Semiconductors line, have been developed using the latest ultrabright indium gallium nitride (InGaN) chip technology. This advanced technology enables these LEDs to achieve typical luminous intensity of 440 mcd and 2,300 mcd, respectively, representing up to a fourfold increase compared to previous solutions in PLCC-2 packages.

Applications and Technical Features

These LEDs stand out not only for their high brightness but also for their compact size of 2.2 mm x 1.3 mm x 1.4 mm, ideal for applications requiring high power components in limited spaces. Typical applications for these LEDs include medical light treatments, signal lights for agricultural equipment and energy generation systems, indicators and backlighting for office, entertainment, and telecommunications equipment, LCD switches, and symbols for general use.

The VLMTG2332ABCA-0 model, with a typical wavelength of 525 nm at 20 mA, is perfect for heart rate monitoring applications in fitness devices that rely on green light absorption. Meanwhile, the VLMB2332T1U2-08 model, emitting a typical wavelength of 465 nm at 20 mA, is optimized for smoke detectors that use short wavelength blue light to detect small particles.

Technical Specifications and Compliance

The MiniLED package of these devices includes a lead frame encapsulated in a white thermoplastic. They offer a ±60° half-intensity angle and a wide viewing angle of 120° for uniform illumination and backlighting. Additionally, they operate with a typical forward voltage of 2.9 V. The VLMB2332T1U2-08 and VLMTG2332ABCA-08 LEDs are categorized, per packaging unit, by luminous intensity and color. They comply with RoHS standards, are halogen-free, and meet Vishay Green environmental standards. They are available on 8 mm tape and can withstand an electrostatic discharge voltage of up to 2 kV, in accordance with JESD22-A114-B, and are compatible with preconditioning according to JEDEC Level 2a and IR reflow soldering according to J-STD-020, suitable for automatic placement equipment.
